The Best Toy Ever

In David Shannon’s book, Too Many Toys, Spencer declares that a box is “the best toy EVER!”.  My mom recently purchased a new oven and and Eli, Addi, and Owa inherited the box from the recycle pile and turned it into a club house.  They found all sorts of other uses for boxes.  My favorite is the Jet Pack that doubles as a Robot!

Press Release

I am SO excited about the recent release of the 6 new Indestructibles.  They look amazing.  Mama and Baby is perfect for hospital gift bags and I am getting great feedback on the nursery rhyme books.  Indestructibles are in more and more stores now.  Someone spotted them at Babies R Us but my local store was not carrying them : (  Hopefully you can find them at a bookstore near you!

Overheard on a DC Urban Moms Forum

From one mom to another:
 subject: chewing on books

Does anyone have any recommendations for books that my 10 m.o. DD can't chew into bits? We have all types of board books but she is chewing through all of them.   She has already chewed through five books this past week.  Does anyone have a brand or series to recommend that are impossible to chew through?

Thanks!

We found them at a bookstore when traveling, but I think you can get them on Amazon. They feel like paper, but really are pretty impossible to tear up or destroy.

Indestructibles to the Rescue!

I was blog hopping when I stumbled upon a post by a very upset mother whose son had just destroyed all his picture books.  So I contacted her.  Running mommy aka Kera Thompson also happens to write a weekly column for  Pregnancy & newborn magazine called Design to Die For.  This week she featured Indestructibles.  Click here to read her post and to enter to win a set of books.

Spring Break Intern

My little "helpers" were available this week and wanted to help mommy with everything except cleaning their own bedroom. Owa assisted me in sending out review copies. She decided to retire her job shortly after Eli and Addison went outside to play stick hockey. We have had a great spring break: cousin sleep over, Star Wars Marathon, Mexican Fiesta, slumber party at Nana's and yesterday the triplets spent an hour rolling down a hill at the park. This morning we woke up to snow. Another chance for a snowball fight!

Over the Moon

We were driving in the car and Eli asked if cows can really jump over the moon? (yes they can - wearing a hat and pearls no less!)

The Literacy Ambassador Recommends Indestructibles

Cathy Puett Miller also known as The Literacy Ambassador recently did an interview with The Reading Tub.  Cathy was asked to single out 10 books, one for each year to recommend for parents to share with their children.  She chose Indestructibles for age 0-3.  You can read her reply below or go here for the entire interview or here to learn more about her and her books.

Cathy: Wow. There is actually no way I could do that nor would I want to. Part of the beauty of reading with your child is finding the right fits for the two (or more) of you. That said, for the years 0-3, think bright pictures, familiar story themes and topics, few words on each page to match the attention span of the individual child. also remember children are very tactile at that age so include a few books that are “mouth proof” like board books or plastic or bath toys. Workman has some new books called “Indestructibles” that are great for this age.

YES!  But don't just take our word for it.  Kristen Schott put Indestructibles to the test:

Read - Write- Get What you Want

My grocery list: cabbage, dressing apples, grapes, pasta, bananas, tomatoes, milk - just the basics nothing fun.  Owa spiced up the back of the list and I was so impressed with all she is learning in kindergarten that I went ahead and got her a box of corn dogs and package of cookies!

WBE Certification

Indestructibles was officially certificated as a Women Business Enterprise (WBE). I heard a lot of rumors about the process before I started, particularly regarding how tedious the application is. I agree there is a lot of paperwork but keeping good records is half the battle. The other key for me was having a wonderful mentor that responded to ALL my email questions when I was stumped. The application is only half the process. The other part involved an interview with the assistant and director of the Kansas Department of Commerce. In the middle of the interview, our dog Luna emerged from the playroom wearing a tutu and sweater. Fortunately for me the two women had a sense of humor!

Indestructibles now available

I am excited to announce that TyBooks are now INDESTRUCTIBLES! The first three books in the series were released by Workman Publishing in December. Farm Charm is now Wiggle! March!, Creepy Crawlies, is now Creep! Crawl! and Things With Wings is now Flutter! Fly! Although the names are new, the size, format, and material has stayed the same. The books will still be printed on the same safe indestructible material babies can grab, hold, and chew while the book still remains intact. I am also delighted to announce that more titles will follow in the Spring and Fall of 2010.

The title pages can be viewed at the Indestructibles Facebook fan page under photo album. Please become a fan while you are there.

Indestructibles are now available wherever books are sold and retail for $4.95 each.

Thanks to everyone who has purchased TyBooks in the past!
